Experienced, approachable, and invested.
Strata CPAs was built on a simple idea: clients deserve experienced professionals who are accessible, responsive, and willing to think practically about real-world situations.
We’re a CPA firm that values technical excellence, but we don’t believe good work requires unnecessary complexity or distance. Our goal is to deliver high-quality accounting, audit, and tax services while maintaining direct, honest relationships with the organizations and individuals we serve.
How Strata works alongside you.
Direct access to experienced CPAs
When you work with Strata CPAs, you work directly with the professionals responsible for your engagement. We believe that leads to better communication, better judgment, and better outcomes.
Thoughtful use of technology
We use modern tools and systems to improve efficiency, reduce friction, and keep projects moving, but never at the expense of accuracy or compliance.
Clear communication
We make a point to be responsive and proactive. Our clients shouldn’t have to guess where things stand or wait weeks for a response to a simple question.
Practical judgment
Accounting standards and regulations matter, as well as understanding the context in which organizations operate. We aim to apply professional judgment thoughtfully and reasonably.
Leadership at Strata CPAs
Matthew V. Frey, CPA
Principal
Matt previously served in an operations leadership role at a mid-sized church and private school, where he was responsible for overseeing financial reporting, internal controls, and day-to-day financial operations, in addition to a variety of other operational areas. Before that, Matt was a police officer and a detective for a state university, and in that capacity, conducted several fraud-related criminal investigations. This experience gives Matt a very unique perspective when conducting financial statement audit engagements.
In particular, Matt understands the challenges smaller organizations face when trying to achieve adequate separation of duties, maximize operational effectiveness, and limit financial risk because he has worked “inside” a nonprofit organization in similar roles. Matt’s background includes a master’s degree in accounting (audit emphasis) and a bachelor’s degree in emergency management. His undergraduate coursework and law enforcement experience provide him with a unique foundation for considering risks organizations face.
Bradley J. Roden, CPA
Principal
Brad was born in Phoenix, but grew up in Tucson. He graduated from Colorado Christian University with a bachelor's degree in business administration and accounting.
After completing several internships while in college (including one where he worked with Matt), he took a full-time job in the industry for several years as a staff / senior accountant, helping a medical service company implement accounting automation, financial reporting, and completing month-end closes.
Several years ago, when Matt started his own practice, Matt asked Brad to join to standardize processes and help grow the client base. Since then, Brad and Matt have gone into business together as owners and principals of Strata CPAs PC.
In his free time, Brad enjoys running, archery, eating, and hanging out with his wife and daughter. He is a big believer in the power of teamwork, control + Z, and copy-paste.
